Another successful Aviation Education Programme 2019/2020
The class of 2019/2020 have recently successfully completed the AEP, despite obvious Covid-19 limitations, and are now just awaiting confirmation for their ‘Celebration Day,’ which we hope to be able to confirm soon. This year’s group comprised of six boys and two girls, they started on the 28/09/19 and had 26 sessions culminating in the final session on 04/07/20. Their course covered topics including flight, engineering, fire and rescue, meteorology and Air Traffic Control as well as a trip to the Farnborough FAST museum.
On the 02/05/20 the course was forced onto Zoom but we were still able to run a few normal sessions such as navigation. We arranged a talk from Tony on his career in aviation, and also from Tim Hartigan the USAF jet fighter Pilot, plus a virtual tour of the Farnborough Airport Fire Station and a weekly quiz. The course concluded with a navigation session, a talk from our Aviation Activities Officer Harvey Matthewson, who runs the programme, and a session on the future and how the course had helped.
Speaking about the course the mother of W said ‘He really enjoyed the session - he has loved the entire programme’
Watch this space for details of 2021’s AEP, we expect the course to begin in the spring of 2021. If you know of any 12-18 year olds with mild to moderate learning or physical disabilities with an interest in aviation please keep an eye on our website and social media.
Our huge thanks to the Hart Rotary Club for supporting AEP this year.
